Made On The Left is run by a devoted committee of independent designers currently on a voluntary basis. Our official title is “The Board of Made on the Left Inc.” – but we like “The Team” much better…
Jacquie (Co-Founder)
Position : Chairperson & Web Guru
Jacquie is a web content administrator for a local design firm. She has a frantic approach to craft; often flinging herself between falling to pieces over the stress and producing fabulous functional designs. Jacquie is back at MOTL after an 18 month break while she finished her Bachelor of Science and started a small business. She’s the perfect person to talk to about business plans, angel investing and how to cope when wholesalers are mean to you.
Position : Vice-Chair + Applications Team
Lauren and her label OSIER have been slowly but steadily making their impression on the local Perth handmade scene since 2006, with vintage-era curios, nature, and a flagrant disregard for colour-matching wheels all being part of the style and feel of what Lauren creates. Her work has been featured in independent fashion magazines like Frankie and Yen, and she hopes to see her work in more independent boutiques in the future.
Position : Secretary (or Lex-etary!)
Lex is a musician by trade, and has completed studies in Music, Anthropology and Arts Management. He has worked in various arts organisations as an artist and arts administrator for the last 10 years. Joining the Made on the Left team fulfils Lex’s commitment to buying handmade, and supporting local artists.
Crochet and textiles have taken over Lex’s creative space, and Lex’s alter ego, Captain Plaknit, loves to get into a bit of guerrilla-action and has been yarn-bombing Perth for the last 3 years!
Sarah (Dogz)
Position : Ms. Marketing
Sarah’s background is in marketing and advertising. Working in Sydney and Perth she has enjoyed working on a variety of projects including co-ordinating events. 2009 bought on a sea change which sent Sarah back to school to study fashion and textile design. Through this she has become passionate about using her marketing skills to help artists promote their work. What better reason to become involved with Made on the left?
Position : Graphics Guru & Treasurer
Nicole studied design and illustration and after working in graphic design for many years, wanted to get back to making things with her hands after spending so much time on a computer. Ever since developing and exploring her interests in printmaking, sewing, laser cutting, drawing cute animals, felting, photography, vintage children’s books, fabrics, paper (and many more), Nicole has been unstoppable! She is currently focusing on developing her label Tall Rabbit and spreading a little bit of cute throughout the world.
Position: Applications Manager & Photographer
Andrea has always been in love with all things handmade and creative. In high school she was offered an apprenticeship with a well-known manufacturing jeweller but she chose instead to study photography and specialise in small product commercial work. Andrea just recently moved her studio from Melbourne to Fremantle, Perth and is excited about meeting all the creative minds on the Left side of Australia as well!
Melinda (Mel)
Position : Regional Wrangler
Melinda has been working in Marketing and Events for the past five years in Perth. Melinda was looking for a more creative and collaborative project that would complement her her professional experience, and MOTL was the perfect match! From a very early age, Melinda has enjoyed making jewellery and recently launched her label ‘tootzzi’ that represents the fashionably outrageous!

Position : Funding & Grants
We here at Made on the Left are looking for someone with heaps of experience with the world of arts grants, government funding and sponsorship of any kind. You’ll be required to research and apply for funding for the organisation, as well as provide information to artists about grants they might be eligible for.

We here at Made on the Left are looking for someone with heaps of experience with the world of press and marketing to volunteer their time to the cause! If you have confidence in contacting newspapers, radio stations, and tv stations, as well as strong knowledge about social marketing and a raging enthusiasm for the friendly art-centric and fun-loving image MOTL portrays, we’d love to have you on board!
